Award-Winning Fiat 500 Available at Herb Chambers
2011 Fiat 500 Worcester |
FPT – Fiat Powertrain Technologies has been awarded the prestigious international Technobest 2010 prize with the innovative twin-cylinder TwinAir engine.
The award was given by Autobest’s international, independent jury – one of the most important European automotive juries – made up of 15 specialist journalists representing a group of countries with a population of 300 million people: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine.
In their statement, the Autobest jury recognised the outright technological innovation of TwinAir, which, by taking the concept of downsizing to an extreme, through the innovative MultiAir electro-hydraulic intake valve management technology in combination with the engine’s specially designed fluid dynamics, allows maximum efficiency and a reduction in fuel consumption.
The new TwinAir engine family – officially presented this year at the Geneva International Motor Show in the form of the 85 HP turbo version – is distinguished by its exceptionally compact dimensions and state-of-the-art technological content, which allows new efficiency benchmarks to be set, with the lowest fuel consumption in the category, confirming the leadership of the Fiat Group in this sector.
According to the version (aspirated, supercharged via turbocharger or bi-fuel CNG), TwinAir can deliver power from 65 to 105 HP. In particular, the top of the range versions are distinguished by impressive power and specific torque values, achieved with just 900 cm3 engine capacity.
Due to its extremely compact dimensions, the new engine also lends itself to combination with an electric engine, thus creating a hybrid power unit particularly suitable for urban use, which maximises the benefits of hybrid power by storing and recovering the energy which is normally dissipated by frequent slowing down and braking.
TwinAir is currently present on the 500, 85 HP Turbo version, ensuring CO2 emissions which can be reduced to as little as 92 g/km in the version with MTA transmission: the best value currently available on the market for petrol cars.
The Technobest 2010 Prize is further confirmation of the Fiat Group and Fiat Powertrain Technologies’ attentiveness to environmental issues and resulting firm commitment to reducing polluting emissions.
Once again this year, and for the fourth time running, Fiat Automobiles has proved – according to JATO – Europe’s most eco-friendly brand with an average CO2 value of just 123.5 g/km and an improvement of 4.3 g/km compared to the 2009 value. Fiat Group Automobiles also holds on to the top spot in the group ranking, with a value of 126.2 g/km, once more demonstrating its technological leadership in environmental sustainability.

All-New Fiat Idea at Worcester Fiat Dealer
2011 Fiat Idea Worcester |
The Fiat Idea, which has always been appreciated for its versatility, good loading capacity and 32 possible configuration possibilities for the interior space, now features a revamped range, making it even more suitable for those who need to combine all sorts of engagements every day: from work, to sports and leisure activities, and much more.
The new Idea range introduces some changes to the trim levels and packs available, keeping the price of the introductory versions unchanged.
There are three different trim levels – Active, Dynamic and Emotion – with a constant difference in price of 1,500 euros between one trim level and the next; the Dynamic 1.6 MultiJet 120 HP Euro 5 version with Start&Stop, Emotion 1.4 95 HP Euro 5 with Start&Stop and Emotion 1.3 MultiJet 95 HP Euro 5 with Start&Stop versions are available.
There are two different packs to choose from, to simplify the choice of trim levels available:
- Active, which comes with trip computer, ABS with EBD, driver and passenger airbags, Dualdrive power steering, 15” wheels, offers the Active pack (radio with CD player, sliding multi-configuration seat, Isofix attachments) and the Active Plus pack (Blaupunkt radio with CD and MP3 player, steering wheel controls, sliding multi-configuration seat, Isofix attachments); the cost of the packs is less than the price of the individual optionals.
- Dynamic, offers as standard – in addition to the standard features of the Active version – painted mouldings and handles, electric wing mirrors and fog lights, window bag, radio with CD and MP3 player with steering wheel controls, sliding multi-configuration seat and Isofix attachments.
- Emotion, offers as standard the additional armrest and the lumbar adjustment on the front seats, the storage compartment on the roof, electric rear windows, parking sensors, tinted windows, automatic bi-zone climate control system, leather steering wheel and ESP.
In addition, the Idea range is equipped with engines affording brilliant performance levels and low fuel consumption, like the “lively” 1.4 95 HP with Start&Stop and 6-speed gearbox or the brilliant and economical 1.3 MultiJet 95 HP with Start&Stop and DPF, the 1.6 MultiJet 120 HP with Start&Stop and DPF for higher performance levels or even the 1.4 77 HP LPG, dedicated to those who cover a lot of mileage.
Fiat Idea is therefore still a rational and logical choice for those who require space, flexibility and comfort at an affordable price.

New Fiat Panda Soon Available at Boston Fiat Dealer
2011 Fiat Panda in Worcester MA |
The 2011 Fiat Panda is packed with new interiors, new colors, new Euro 5 engines, but without giving up on the winning characteristics that make it the undisputed leader in its category: innovative design, advanced technology made accessible to all and smart solutions to simplify and improve the on-board experience.
The major novelty of the Panda MY 2011 range is the Euro 5 engines, the 1.3 MultiJet 16v 75 HP with DPF as standard and the 1.2 8v 69 HP, two new units that set themselves apart with their performance and environmental-friendliness.
The 1.3 16V MultiJet 75 HP, combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox ensures excellent performance (165 km/h) and some of the best fuel consumption in the segment (4.2 l/100 km in combined cycle) while CO2 emissions are just 109 g/km and the particulate filter (DPF) comes as standard.
The second engine in the range is the 1.2 8v 69 HP which gives greater flexibility, less fuel consumption and better performance with respect to the Euro 4 version of the same engine, thanks to an additional 9 HP: it reaches 162 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds and consumes 4.9 l/100 km in the cycle, with CO2 emissions of 113 g/km.
What’s more, the weight/power ratio of the two units meets the requirements of Italian law which, in force from 1 January 2011, will limit the specific power to 50 Kw/t for vehicles which newly licensed drivers are allowed to drive.
Besides the new Euro 5 engines, the Panda comes with methane or LPG engines and with front-wheel or four-wheel drive – the latter enhanced by an Electronic Locking Differential in combination with the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) – and in six different trim levels.
Panda MY 2011 is also sporting new colours: outside with the addition of two new body shades, Volare Blue and Eccentrico Green, and inside with finer quality fabrics and more striking decorative touches, in particular a new grey/blue denim fabric.
